What it is underneath the daftness is a crunch toy. The filling is crispy plastic rather than polyester fibre, so the whole body crackles rather than just one section of it, and there's a squeaker in there as well. For a lot of dogs the crackle is the draw — a squeak is instant and over, while crunching something gives them a job to do.
