Whelping Kit for Dogs: Box, Heat Pad, Collars, Pads & Vet Bedding

A whelping kit is everything a home litter needs in one place: somewhere to whelp, warmth, identification, a base that copes with the mess, bedding on top and a bowl for weaning. This page groups six pieces from our whelping supplies into a puppy whelping kit; each is added to the basket separately, so you choose the sizes and skip anything you already have.

What goes in the kit

The W-Help-ing cardboard whelping box is the foundation of the whelping box kit: splashproof-coated corrugated cardboard with a wax-lined base insert, chew rails and three puppy rails, flat packed and designed for one or two litters. Choose Small (24in x 24in x 13in), Medium (36in x 36in x 16in) or Large (48in x 48in x 18in) by measuring mum lying stretched out.

The KozeePet Puppy Electric Heat Pad holds a regulated 38°C, the womb temperature of most animals before birth, with two thermal cut-offs, a fire-retardant cover, a chew-resistant cable and a low-voltage 12V supply. At 44 x 33cm it warms part of the box, so the pups can move off it.

Identi-Pet 12 Whelping Collars are twelve soft hook-and-loop collars in twelve colours, with no buckle or clip, washable for future litters.

The Inconti-Pet Washable Training Pad goes on the base: wicking top, absorbent core and PVC-coated backing, washable at 40°C, with 60cm, 90cm and 120cm squares that are close matches for the three boxes.

Original Greenback Fleece goes on top: the green backing lets liquid drain through to the pad while the 25–28mm pile stays warm, and it comes ready cut in 24in, 36in and 48in squares.

The Hungry Henry Litter Feeding Bowl is for weaning: a wide stainless steel bowl the whole litter can share, shaped to keep puppies out of the food, in 1.2L, 1.5L and 2L sizes.

Do I have to buy every item?

No. Each item is added to the basket separately, so take the whole kit or only the pieces you are missing, and skip anything you already own.

Which sizes should I choose?

Measure mum lying stretched out, with room for the litter, to choose the box; the 60cm, 90cm and 120cm pads and the 24in, 36in and 48in fleece squares match the three boxes.

When should I set the kit up?

Around two weeks before the due date. Assemble the box, fit the rails at the marked points, lay the pad and fleece, and put the heat pad at one end; the bowl can wait until weaning.

Can I use the kit for kittens?

Partly. The collars are designed for puppies and kittens, the heat pad’s 38°C warmth is intended for newborn kittens too, and Vetfleece suits cats. The box is designed for dogs.
