Heated Dog Bed Kit: 38°C Heat Pad, Vet Bedding & Spare Cover

A heated dog bed does not have to be a special bed. It is your dog’s own bed, basket or crate with a low-voltage heat pad at one end and a layer of vet bedding over the top, and that is what this kit is: the KozeePet Puppy Electric Heat Pad, a cut of Original Greenback vet bedding in the size you choose, and a genuine spare cover for the pad. Each piece is added to the basket separately, so you pick the bedding size and colour. Call it a dog heater bed or a heat pad for a dog bed; this kit is both.

How the heated dog bed goes together

Put the heat pad, cover fitted, at one end of the bed or crate floor, lay the Original Greenback over it, and run the cable out to a transformer kept dry and out of reach. The pad warms the fleece above it, and the 25–28mm pile helps hold the warmth and keeps the surface soft.

The pad is 44 × 33cm and is meant to warm part of the bed, not all of it. In a 24 × 18in crate it covers about half the floor; in a 36 × 24in crate, about a quarter. Your dog lies on the warm patch when they want it and moves off when they are warm enough.

Warm, never fierce

The pad is thermostatically held at a regulated 38°C, the temperature of the womb of most animals before birth, so it stays gently warm rather than getting hotter. Two thermal cut-off switches at 38°C back the thermostat up. The pad is splash proof, the cable chew-resistant, and the low-voltage 12V DC supply comes from a transformer that is double insulated, splash proof and protected by its own overheat cut-out. No hazardous materials are used, and it is built to a long list of British Standards. It is for household use only, and as with any electrical product, supervise your dog.

Who it suits

The pad was designed for newborns and for older or poorly pets that struggle to keep their own temperature up. In a heated dog bed that means an older dog who is slow to settle at night, a dog recovering from illness, a thin-coated dog that feels the cold, or a puppy in its first bed after weaning. It is comfort, not medicine. Gentle warmth may help a stiff dog settle, but it does not cure arthritis or any other condition, and if your dog is stiff, slow to rise or in pain, see your vet.

Choosing the bedding size

Measure the inside of the crate floor or the bed base, length by width, and choose the nearest Original Greenback cut. The 24 × 18in, 30 × 20in, 36 × 24in, 42 × 28in and 48 × 30in cuts follow standard UK crate sizes. Greenback cuts to shape without fraying, so an oval basket is no problem. It comes in brown, charcoal, grey or white.

Care

The Greenback washes at 40°C and dries quickly. The pad’s fleece cover is machine washable, and the spare cover means a clean one is always on the pad while the other dries. The pad itself stays out of the wash: keep it, the cable and the transformer tidy and dry, inspect them regularly, and always use the pad with its cover on.
