Dog Car Travel Kit: Harness, Seat Belt & Boot Vent Locks

A dog car travel kit is four things: a harness for dogs in car journeys, a seat belt that holds it, ventilation for the boot when you stop, and water for the road. Each item is added to the basket separately, so you choose sizes and colours and skip anything you already own.

What goes in the kit

The AK-9 Dog Power Harness is the anchor, because the seat belt clips to a harness, never a collar, so pressure from sudden braking spreads across the chest rather than the neck. It comes in five sizes by chest measurement, from 4kg to 40kg; measure the chest just behind the front legs and use the table on the harness page.

The AK-9 In-Car Anti-Shock Dog Safety Seat Belt is the dog car seat belt harness link: one end plugs into the seatbelt slot, the other clips to the harness D-ring with a 360° swivel combat clip. An elasticated bungee softens sudden braking, and a slider adjusts it from 53cm to 75cm.

AK-9 Vent Locks hold the tailgate ajar by linking the boot lid to the boot lock, so warm air rises out and cooler air is drawn in, in 2in, 5in, 8in and 12in sizes. Never leave a dog alone in a car on a warm day.

The Dogsbody Portable Dog Water Bottle covers the journey: press the button one-handed to fill the built-in bowl, then tip it upright to drain the rest back in. Leak-proof lock, 380ml or 500ml.

Do I have to buy every item?

No. Each item is added to the basket separately, so take the whole kit or only the pieces you are missing. If you already have a well-fitting harness with a strong D-ring, the seat belt on its own is enough to start.

Can the seat belt clip to a collar instead?

No. The belt is designed for a harness only. A sudden stop on a collar could choke or injure your dog, so always attach it to a comfortable, strong harness that spreads the load across the chest.

Which vent lock size do I need?

The four sizes set the gap: 2in for cooler days, 5in for an everyday opening, 8in and 12in for more airflow. Opening a sunroof or side window a little helps the warm air escape.

Is it safe to leave my dog in the car with the vent locks fitted?

No. Better airflow is never a substitute for proper care. Never leave a dog alone in a vehicle on a warm day, because the temperature inside can rise dangerously fast.
